Ranbir Kapoor, who shared the screen space with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, which also featured Anushka Sharma, once opened up about his bond with Aishwarya and some of the memories he cherishes for life, particularly her humility. “To be honest, Ash was also kind at the start of her career. I was assisting my father (late Rishi Kapoor) on a film called Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999). It was at a place called Sunside Heights outside New York. Even though I was younger than her, she really befriended me and we used to chat about movies. She was also working on Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam at that time. So, she used to talk about that character and how she was preparing with Mr Bhansali. Every time, she packed up, we used to meet in the evening…we used to have a meal together, we used to chat about life,” Kapoor told Mashable India in 2023.
He continued, “I am really happy that I have had that friendship with her. And I have also had the opportunity to work opposite her. And not many people get the chance to romance Aishwarya Rai on screen. So, that’s a score.”
Taking a cue from his revelation, let’s understand how such unassuming moments leave the deepest impressions.
Delnna Rrajesh, a psychotherapist, shared how such bonds are a telltale aspect of “human connection at its core.”
Genuine connection requires emotional equality
It doesn’t matter who’s younger or older, more accomplished or just starting. “When someone truly sees you, listens without judgment, and shares from a place of truth, a safe space is created. That’s the essence of emotional intimacy – when two people meet as equals, even if just for a moment,” said Delnna.
When ego steps aside, growth steps in
Ranbir was not intimidated by her success. “Aishwarya didn’t feel the need to dominate the conversation. That’s emotional maturity. The ability to sit across from someone without comparison and still value what both bring to the table is a trait often overlooked in today’s achievement-obsessed culture. Humility, especially early in one’s journey, is a gift. It creates fertile ground for real learning,” added Delnna.
Moments that quietly shape us
Sometimes, the most meaningful influence doesn’t come in the form of direct advice or formal mentorship. It ultimately comes down to how someone presents themselves. It’s in these quiet exchanges that we often learn the most. “Not through lectures, but through lived energy. Through presence. Through witnessing someone else embody the values we may one day want to carry within ourselves,” shared Delnna.
Emotional intelligence is remembered
Years later, he still remembers that dinner. That’s what emotional intelligence does – it leaves a mark, asserted Delnna. “Not the grandeur. Not the setting. But how someone made you feel. We forget that our smallest interactions can shape someone else’s emotional memory,” said Delnna.
The way we listen, the way we speak, and the humility we carry in moments of shared space form the emotional blueprint of who we become. “So, whether you’re just starting or leading the way, don’t underestimate the power of a quiet, honest moment with another soul. You never know who will remember it. Or how deeply it may inspire them,” said Delnna.
