Travelling with your infant for the very first time can be daunting, especially for first-time parents who might find it difficult to prepare for a long journey. “But one can conquer the fear of travelling with their baby using a few tips and tricks. From packing the right supplies to making sure your little one is comfortable during the journey, all that a hassle-free trip requires is a bit of planning and preparation,” said Pallavi Utagi, a mommy and founder of SuperBottoms.

Here are some steps by the expert to make sure your trip is comfortable and fun:

Pack the essentials

First and foremost, packing all the baby care items such as diapers, wipes, an extra pair of clothing, and a moisturiser or rash cream is the number one priority, but keep your baggage manageable and light by not going overboard. Using cloth diapers is a better idea than choosing plastic diapers as they provide comfort and last for over 10-12 hours, an ideal choice for a long journey. They are also more suitable for heavy-wetting babies. Consider bringing a baby carrier, so you don’t need to lug your heavy bag while balancing your baby in your arms.

Plan for comfort

Bring a few of your babies’ favourite toys and blankets to make them feel at home. If you’re taking a flight, book one that has a bassinet option available. If you’re road-tripping, make sure to take frequent breaks to feed and change the diapers.

Baby feeding

Make sure you have all the necessary supplies to feed your baby such as bottles, formula, and baby food. However, if you’re breastfeeding, don’t forget to pack a few nursing pads and cover-ups for privacy.

First-aid kit

Carry all the essential medications and bandages in a first-aid kit for common flus and viruses, or an unexpected accident. With all the right medicines, your little one will remain safe and sound on your trip.

Keep the baby happy

Nobody likes a crying baby on a flight! So, carry some toys to keep your baby distracted and entertained. Additionally, make sure to bring snacks and water for your baby. This will keep the baby well-fed during your travels. A little planning can go a long way in making your trip a success.
