Acne is the most common skin related issue faced by both men and women, and can erupt at any age and in any part of the body. It is a condition that occurs when hair follicles plug with oil and dead skin cells, according to Mayo Clinic, leading to whiteheads, blackheads, pus-filled pimples, or red bumps.

While a balanced diet may help control acne flare-ups, here are a few ways you can try and treat acne at home.

Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, a dermatologist, shared an informative post on her Instagram account telling us about the kinds of acne and how to treat them.

“There are two main types of acne–non-inflammatory and inflammatory,” she wrote in her Instagram post.

As per her post, blackheads and whiteheads are non-inflammatory acne that doesn’t cause swelling or inflammation in the skin. These can usually be treated using salicylic acid and over-the-counter (OTC) products.

Inflammatory acne is of various types, such as pustules, papules, cysts, and nodules. Dr Geetika suggested the following ways you can treat your acne at home.

Blackheads

Gently exfoliate with AHAs and BHAs. Try topical retinoids and in-clinic treatments such as hydrafacial MD, cocktail peels, and skin oasis facial.
