Stress has, unfortunately, become an everyday part of our lives, owing to our hectic schedules and erratic lifestyle habits. While mindfulness habits such as meditation, yoga, and journaling are commonly suggested remedies to overcome stress, have you tried affirmations? For the unversed, affirmations are positive statements or phrases aimed at fostering a positive mindset and self-empowerment.

According to Sonnalli Seygall, our thoughts create our life and our subconscious is the most susceptible just when we are waking up or when we are going to sleep. “So, when we plant an affirmation at that time, it’s the most effective,” the actor said on Instagram.

Sonnalli added that repeating these affirmations throughout the day or whenever you are stressed or feeling low are also great ways of changing your thoughts to create the reality you want. “Try it. It definitely changed my life,” she said.

In a video posted alongside in which she can be seen meditating in an open ground, Sonnalli shared seven everyday affirmations to overcome stress.

*I am safe
*I am secure
*I am stable and calm
*I am confident
*I am peaceful
*I am abundance
*I am happy

Dr Neha Dutt, counselling psychologist, Dharmshila Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Delhi agreed that affirmations are powerful tools to help overcome stress and promote a positive mindset. She also shared some affirmations that can be effective.

*I am calm and in control of my emotions.
*I choose peace and serenity over stress.
*I trust in my ability to handle whatever comes my way.
*I release tension and embrace relaxation.
*I am resilient and can overcome life’s challenges.
*I breathe deeply and let go of stress with each exhale.
*I am in tune with my body and respond to its needs.
*I focus on the present moment, letting go of worries about the past or future.
*I am worthy of self-care and self-compassion.
*I attract positivity and repel negativity.

The expert said that repeating these affirmations regularly can help rewire your thought patterns and reduce stress. “Remember to say them with conviction and belief in their truth. Combining affirmations with relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation, or yoga can further enhance their effectiveness in promoting a sense of calm and well-being in your everyday life,” Dr Dutt said.
