Television actor Shama Sikander, best known for her appearance in the popular drama ‘Ye Meri Life Hai,’ has unveiled a side of herself that goes beyond her on-screen persona and fashion sense.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sikander opened the doors to her lavish 4 BHK Mumbai apartment, offering a glimpse into a space that seamlessly blends international aesthetics with artistic flair.

American-European charm in the heart of Mumbai

Sikander’s long-held dream of an American-European themed home has come to life in her high-rise Mumbai residence. The apartment boasts a rarity in the bustling city: an abundance of natural light streaming through walk-in doors and French windows. This flood of sunlight not only brightens the space but also amplifies the carefully curated decor.

She told the interviewer, “It came from me, I wanted a European-American themed home and I like a lot of lights… so you can see that there is a lot of light in my home.”

Ralph Lauren-inspired elegance

Drawing inspiration from Ralph Lauren’s iconic interiors and architecture, Sikander has crafted a sophisticated black-and-white theme against an all-white backdrop. A standout feature is a wall adorned with carefully selected pictures that she says she wanted to add to add more “personality” to the space. These images include chandeliers, staircases, and artwork depicting animals, freedom, and music, creating a narrative that’s both personal and visually striking.

A global treasure trove

Sikander’s home is a testament to her worldly travels and discerning eye for design. When asked if she street-shopped and bought any of the decor items in the house, she joked, “Street shopping hai lekin but Rs 150 wali nahi hai. 200 euros keh sakti hu, Rs 150 nahi. (I have done some street shopping but not of items worth Rs 150. I can say I have shopped for 200 euros but not Rs 150).”

As they proceed to the kitchen, the stonework dining table and chairs, sourced from China, serve as the centerpiece of her dining area. Other furniture pieces and decor items have been handpicked by the actor during her globe-trotting adventures, with some items specially imported when luggage constraints prevented immediate transport. “All of these were purchased abroad, everything you see here was bought outside,” she explains.

While the apartment exudes an international vibe, Sikander hasn’t overlooked local craftsmanship. She points to the ivory sofa set in her living room, a grandiose addition to the living space which was custom-made in India. Adding an artistic edge are human sculpture head lamps — white with black shades — handcrafted by an Indian artist.

Personal touches and artistic accents

Sikander’s personality shines through in the details. She mentions, “I love coffee table books because they look very grand. I like to read books as well so I have placed them here. Again there’s animal photo art here. I really liked this artist’s work.”

Marble decor pieces from the United States add a touch of elegance to tabletops, and a tribal-themed white round mirror brings character to the balcony area.

The newly renovated open kitchen, with its sleek grey cabinets and state-of-the-art equipment, is designed not just for functionality but also to create an immersive culinary experience. The layout allows for live cooking, filling the home with enticing aromas.

The spiritual ‘den’

One of the most unique spaces in Sikander’s apartment is what she calls “the den.” This room stands in stark contrast to the rest of the apartment, featuring an all-black colour scheme. Sikander explains the significance of this space:

“Both my husband and I are very spiritual people, and we feel that as we spiritually evolve and grow, our things also naturally take on that colour, they naturally take shape. So, when we were designing this room, we didn’t consciously think of it in a spiritual way, but when it came together, we ended up having such deep conversations here, it’s beyond words.”

The den features heavy denim curtains weighing 300 kilos, adding to the room’s unique ambiance. Sikander recalls the challenge of convincing her painter to create an all-black room, a concept rarely seen in Mumbai apartments.

The memory wall: A personal gallery

One of the most heartwarming features of Sikander’s home is the memory wall. “This is our memory wall where we’ve put some of our favourite pictures,” she explains. The wall serves as a personal gallery, featuring cherished moments and loved ones.

Sikander’s attention to detail extends to the curation of these photos. “Aesthetically, it looked very good because the whole interior was done by me. So, everything I’ve chosen has a very spiritual meaning behind it,” she shares.

One particular photo catches the eye — a meditative shot of Sikander herself. “I must have been in some meditative moment in my life when James (her husband) took this picture,” she recalls.

Amidst the luxurious decor, she hasn’t forgotten the refreshing touch of nature. Fresh flowers and planters are strategically placed throughout the apartment, adding vibrancy and life to the sophisticated interiors.

Sikander’s home is a true reflection of her global travels, spiritual journey, and artistic sensibilities. It stands as a testament to the actor’s ability to blend international luxury with deeply personal touches, creating a space that’s both visually stunning and emotionally resonant
