Mira Kapoor, known for her dedication to enhancing her skincare routine, is a firm believer in maintaining a delicate balance and opting for natural products. Recently, she shared insights into how her skincare regimen has evolved to adapt to the humid weather conditions.

“I have been exfoliating (chemical) four nights a week up from twice. My skin congests easily and with quite a few shoots, long hours of makeup, and humid weather, I felt I needed to dial up although gently,” shared Mira on her Instagram Stories.

Mira revealed how she ensures that her skin doesn’t feel “icky”.

“I keep my daytime moisturiser very light so that I don’t feel icky with sunscreen. And it has really helped. At the end of the day, it is all about listening to your skin,” she said.

For the unversed, moisturisers play a fundamental role in maintaining skin hydration.

“They contain ingredients such as humectants (like hyaluronic acid) and emollients that help to attract and retain moisture. Well-hydrated skin is more resilient and less prone to issues like dryness or flakiness,” said Dr Manasi Shirolikar, consultant dermatologist and founder, drmanasiskin.com.

Dr Shirolikar described that a moisturiser creates a smooth canvas for sunscreen application. “Uneven or dry skin can make it challenging to apply sunscreen evenly, potentially leaving areas unprotected. A moisturiser ensures that the sunscreen glides on effortlessly, promoting uniform coverage,” she told indianexpress.com.

Additionally, moisturisers with added antioxidants can complement the protective effects of sunscreens by neutralising free radicals induced by UV exposure or ultraviolet rays of the sun.

“Moisturised skin feels more comfortable, especially when wearing a matte sunscreen throughout the day. Sunscreen can sometimes feel drying on the skin, and the moisturiser acts as a barrier to maintain comfort,” said Dr Shirolikar.

According to Dr Shirolikar, moisturisers also contribute to maintaining the skin barrier function. “A robust skin barrier is crucial for protecting against environmental stressors, including UV rays,” said Dr Shirolikar.
