Can using amla-cucumber juice help with hair growth?

There are plenty of haircare hacks that promise to fulfill your hair requirements. From shiny hair to thick and long hair, these hacks comprise common ingredients found at our homes, which can also be made in a jiffy. But what one needs to keep in mind is their effectiveness. As such, when we came across a remedy for hair growth, we immediately wanted to check whether it worked.

A mother-daughter duo Mehroz-Bushra shared on Instagram that amla-cucumber juice can help with thick and long hair growth.

Ingredients

1 no – Cucumber
3 no – Amla
3-4 no – Curry leaves
1/2 inch – Ginger
1/2tsp – Black salt
1 cup – Water
Honey – as required

Method

*Wash amla and cucumber. Cut them and add them into a blender along with fresh curry leaves, ginger, and water.

*Grind this and strain enjoy it fresh.

*You can sprinkle some black salt and honey for taste.

*You can use the discarded pulp as a hair mask in your hair keep it for about 15-20 minutes then wash it with normal water. It will help you get silky and shiny hair, the post mentioned.

Indian gooseberry (amla) and cucumber juice can indeed have potential benefits for your hair’s health.

According to Dr Rinky Kapoor, consultant dermatologist, cosmetic dermatologist, and dermato-surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics, the juice is:

*Rich in vitamin C: Indian gooseberry is a powerhouse of vitamin C, which plays a vital role in collagen production. Collagen is essential for hair strength and structure.

*Antioxidant properties: Both Indian gooseberry and cucumber are loaded with antioxidants that help protect your hair follicles from damage caused by free radicals.

*Hydration: Cucumber has a high-water content, which helps keep your hair and scalp hydrated. Proper hydration is crucial for healthy hair growth.

*Nutrient absorption: The combination of these ingredients may aid in better nutrient absorption by your hair follicles, ensuring they receive the necessary vitamins and minerals for growth.

*Scalp health: These ingredients have a cooling and soothing effect on the scalp, potentially reducing irritation and dandruff.

Curry leaves contain nutrients that have been traditionally associated with reduced hair fall and improved hair texture. “Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and potential to enhance blood circulation, indirectly supporting hair follicles with nutrients. Honey, if added, can offer vitamins and minerals that benefit hair and act as a natural conditioner,” said Dr Navya Handa, dermatologist, cosmetologist, and laser surgeon, Primus Super Speciality Hospital.

Having said that, it’s essential to remember that healthy hair is also influenced by various factors such as genetics, overall diet, and hair care practices. “A balanced diet rich in nutrients, proper hair care, and avoiding excessive heat or chemical treatments are also essential for maintaining and promoting healthy hair. If you have specific concerns about your hair, I recommend consulting with a dermatologist for personalised guidance,” said Dr Kapoor.
