During the recently concluded Dil-Luminati Tour – India at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh highlighted the significance of “spending 10 minutes in the morning with yourself”. Speaking in Punjabi, the Crew actor advised everyone to talk to themselves and manifest whatever they want.
“Whatever you want will happen for you. Instead of checking the phone in the morning, I would request you all to speak to yourselves for 10 minutes every morning. Do whatever you want — meditation, yoga, or whatever else. Just spend 10 minutes with yourself. This is my personal experience. I am a desi guy, but I have sold out tickets for this concert. (In gestures — all because of mind-power),” Dosanjh, 40, said.
Experts urge not to check social media or work-related emails after waking up, as it saves time and can avoid stress. Dr Haricharan G, senior consultant physician, HoD, internal medicine, Gleneagles Hospitals, Lakdi Ka Pul, Hyderabad, shared that a workout routine helps as it ensures you get your daily dose of fitness. This, combined with some time spent with family, also helps streamline the mornings better.
Dr Haricharan further said that spending a few minutes with yourself in the morning can help you approach the day ahead calmly. “One can do breathing exercises, meditation, spend time in nature, have lemon water, journal, or walk in the sunlight. These can effectively help manage stress, anxiety, and sleep issues owing to a digitally wired world,” said Dr Haricharan.
According to Dr Haricharan, breathing exercises and meditation promote relaxation and mental clarity, reducing stress and anxiety. Such activities release feel-good hormones that soothe and calm you down, help you make happy memories, or give you a feeling of goal accomplishment.
“However, it is essential to personalise this routine based on individual health conditions, timings, and preferences. Consulting with a healthcare provider is advisable for those with specific medical concerns or conditions,” said Dr Haricharan.
