Deepika Padukone loves to experiment with her style. But on most occasions, she prefers to complete her looks with basic makeup, allowing her glowing skin to steal the limelight. So, it is not surprising that she invests in her skincare routine, which she recently revealed is minimalistic.

In an interesting but short Ask-Me-Anything session on Instagram Stories, the Pathaan actor shared that it was her mother Ujjala Padukone who “taught” her to keep her skincare very basic. Take a look.

Replying to a user ‘dying to know the secret behind your super glowing skin’, Deepika Padukone shared, “My secret has been to keep it very simple. I just stick to the fundamentals. It is the mantra that my mother taught me. She said, ‘don’t do too much to your skin. Keep it simple, less is more. So as a young kid when your mother tells you that, it kind of sticks with you. So, I kind of continued that through my journey, my skincare routine.”

Opening up about the things she religiously follows, Deepika said, “I focus on cleansing my skin, keeping my skin hydrated, and using sunscreen to protect it from the sun. That’s really all I do.”

Deepika, who recently forayed into the beauty and skincare industry with her brand 82°E, had previously broken down her makeup look in the much-loved film Piku. In a video interview with Allure, Deepika said, “I think a character I have played that is very similar to the way I am in real life is probably Piku,” adding that her look was “just very, very natural”.

“You could literally see the skin in the movie,” the 37-year-old said, adding that she would sit in the makeup chair “for not more than five or ten minutes, including hair and makeup”.

She continued, “I didn’t feel the layers and, in fact, Piku is one film but I feel like that for a lot of my films. You know, we don’t really wear too much makeup unless it’s a character that requires that.”

Dr Akriti Gupta, a cosmetic dermatologist from Jivisha Clinic in New Delhi had previously told this portal that a “well-rounded skincare regimen” should contain four steps: washing, exfoliating, moisturising, and sun protection. “It is imperative to enhance your skincare routine. Additionally, each of these elements needs to be customised for your skin type,” she said.

But, a good skincare routine should be complemented with an active lifestyle and healthy diet. “Physical activity plays a crucial part in skin health and appearance,” said Dr Vandana Punjabi, consultant dermatologist, and trichologist, practicing in Khar and Nanavati Max Superspeciality Hospital, adding that “it improves blood flow to nourish cells, reduces stress, enhances chronic skin conditions, prevents the signs of aging, and improves overall health.”
