The Labrador Retriever, which enjoyed a cozy and comfortable life in the American household for over three decades, has now been replaced by the playful, bat-eared French Bull Dog as America’s most favourite, the American Kennel Club announced Wednesday.

The club, a registry of purebred breeds of dogs in the United States, announced its winner and listed why the French breed has been winning hearts lately. It has gained subsequent popularity for all the good reasons. Frenchies are known for their playful and affectionate nature, they love to cuddle their owners and form a loving bond with them.

Why are they being chosen?

Talking about their living habits, they are known to be highly adaptable in any environment. Due to their small stature and low exercise needs, they make for an excellent pet choice, especially for city dwellers.

“They make wonderful companions for a variety of people, but it’s extremely important to do your research to not only find the right breed for your lifestyle but to ensure that you’re getting a well-bred dog from a responsible breeder,” Ms DiNardo added, SkyNews reported.

French bulldogs rose from the 14th spot to the top spot in breed popularity between 2012 and 2022, with registrations skyrocketing over 1,000 percent.

Although there are many reasons for one to get a French Bull Dog, there are a few points to consider before buying.

The British Veterinary Association strictly discourages people from buying brachycephalic breeds, described as having short snouts and flat faces. French Bulldogs come under this breed and are prone to various health issues such as breathing difficulties, eye disorders such as cherry eye, skin diseases, dental problems, and complications during childbirth.

While French Bull Dogs continue to captivate hearts with their loyal fervor and affection for their masters, as buyers one must weigh the pros and cons and prioritize proper breeding practices to help minimize health issues and provide a healthy life to these adorable furry friends.
