Keeping fit and healthy doesn’t necessarily have to be complicated as you can maintain your well-being by paying attention to three basic things in your lifestyle – diet, sleep, and meditation. Stressing something similar is Hrithik Roshan, who is arguably one of the fittest actors in Bollywood. Recently, the actor took to Twitter to share why and how these factors can significantly improve your health.
Posting a picture of him flaunting his chiselled biceps, he wrote, “When the diet and sleep score is on point, it feels so good. Took this in November 2022. Currently serving as a reminder not to deviate or let go too much while on kids’ spring break.”
He added that it’s “funny” how despite food and sleep being the easiest factors, most aren’t able to get it right. “Because they require a quiet mind and content, disciplined days. Whereas, training and gym are so simple because it requires aggression which is somehow easier to access than quiet joy.”
Apart from food and sleep, what has worked wonders for Hrithik is meditation, he admitted. “What has helped me change my course and up my joy is meditation. Sounds so boring. But once you give it enough time, magical things happen. I started with 10 mins a year ago. And today an hour seems less.”
Agreeing, Dr Narendra Shetty, Chief Wellness Officer, Kshemavana said that diet, sleep, and meditation are all important factors in supporting our overall well-being. “What we eat has a direct impact on our physical, mental, and emotional health. It can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. It also supports mental health by providing the nutrients needed for optimal brain function and promoting the production of mood-boosting hormones,” he said.
Functional nutritionist Mugdha Pradhan, CEO and Founder, iThrive added that we are made up of the food we eat. “The food we consume is used to replace old cells in every body tissue that are constantly being discarded,” she said.
Sleep, on the other hand, plays a vital role in the body’s ability to heal, repair, and rejuvenate. “Sleep deprivation has been linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders. Getting enough sleep can help regulate mood and improve cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and decision-making skills,” Dr Shetty shared.
As for meditation, it is a powerful tool for reducing stress and anxiety, according to the expert. “It can also improve cognitive function, including memory, concentration, and attention.”
Pradhan concurred by saying that sleep and meditation are very helpful in reducing our stress and cortisol levels. “It helps our bodies relax which aids the body in getting into the parasympathetic state where the body heals and recovers. Getting adequate sleep (around 7-9 hours) daily is absolutely vital for recovery and the maintenance of all bodily functions,” she mentioned.
When all three components are combined, they can work together in synergy to support health, Dr Shetty concluded.
