We all surely love our morning cup of coffee and we can hardly think of starting our day without it. But experts believe that caffeine present in coffee can do more harm than good.
“Caffeine first thing in the morning causes more inflammation in the already inflamed gut when you suffer from gut and hormonal issues,” said Dr Dr Dixa Bhavsar Savaliya in an Instagram post.
She further explained that “Caffeine irritates your gut lining and increases pitta along with vata which leads to more hormonal imbalance, bloating, constipation and pitta (heat) issues.”
As such the expert has a much healthier solution for us. Taking to Instagram she shared the recipe for a “caffeine-free herbal tea.”
Calling it the “easiest, quickest and the most effective way to incorporate healthy changes” she added that the tea can be helpful in— “acidity, migraine, nausea, headache, GERD, PCOS, hypertension, high cholesterol.”
Check out the super easy recipe
*Just take 1 glass of water (300 ml)
*Add 15 curry leaves
*15 mint leaves
*1 tbsp fennel seeds
*2 tbsp coriander seeds and boil it for 5-7 mins on a medium flame
“Sip on it first thing in the morning and see how wonderful you feel,” she said.
She further suggested that “It’s best to stop caffeine when you have hormonal and pitta issues.”
However, she added that “if you cannot stop it right away- you can add half tsp desi ghee or 1 tsp coconut oil in your tea/coffee to reduce the damage it causes your gut and have it 30 minutes after drinking the herbal tea.”
Shree Laxmi, dietician, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, HSR Layout, Bangalore said that it is possible to cut down on caffeine intake by adding healthy alternatives like green tea, warm lime jaggery, or herbal tea. “Reduce your sugar intake. Add low glycemic index foods to your overall diet which will help reduce insulin spikes. If insulin is produced in moderation or released slowly, it helps one feel energised,” said Laxmi.
