Kashmir is synonymous with beauty but it is also known for its exquisite cuisine. One of the main aspects of traditional cuisine is Kahwa, a tea made from herbal ingredients, which is suited for the winter cold as it brings much-needed warmth.

Among the claims surrounding this aromatic drink is its ability to aid in weight loss. Let’s delve into the components of kahwa tea and how it might contribute to shedding those extra pounds.

There are 3 reasons to have this nutritious flavourful kahwa every day, said chef Meghna Kamdar in a post on Instagram.

1. When you have had heavy meals; this weight loss kahwa will make you feel light and will bring improvement in gut health
2. By having an empty stomach every morning; you will see a positive impact in your weight loss journey and not feel bloated at all (sometimes we feel bloated from the start of the day)
3. It is so flavourful and excellent for immunity; you will feel like having this all day.

Are these reasons good enough?

Natural ingredients and antioxidants

Kahwa tea is a blend of green tea leaves, cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, creating a concoction rich in antioxidants. These antioxidants play a crucial role in neutralising free radicals in the body, supporting overall health, said Dr Archana Batra, nutritionist, and certified diabetes educator, Gurgaon.

Metabolism boost

Green tea, a key component of kahwa, contains catechins, which are believed to have metabolism-boosting properties. A faster metabolism can potentially contribute to weight loss by aiding the body in burning calories more efficiently.

Appetite control

The combination of spices in kahwa, such as cinnamon and cardamom, may contribute to appetite control. These spices have been associated with stabilizing blood sugar levels, helping to curb cravings and prevent overeating, said Dr Batra.

Improved digestion

According to Dr Batra, Kahwa’s ingredients, including cardamom and cloves, have digestive benefits. Improved digestion can contribute to a more efficient breakdown of food, potentially aiding in weight management.

Reduced stress levels

The warming properties of kahwa, coupled with its spices, can have a calming effect. “Stress is often linked to weight gain, particularly around the abdominal area. By promoting relaxation, kahwa tea may indirectly support weight loss efforts,” said Dr Batra.

Hydration and detoxification

Staying hydrated is crucial for overall health, and kahwa can contribute to daily fluid intake. “Additionally, the antioxidants in the tea may assist in detoxifying the body, promoting a healthier internal environment,” said Dr Batra.

Exercise performance

The modest caffeine content in kahwa, combined with its other components, may provide a gentle energy boost. “This could potentially enhance exercise performance, supporting weight loss efforts when combined with a regular fitness routine,” said Dr Batra.

What to keep in mind?

While kahwa offers potential benefits, it’s essential to approach weight loss holistically. Incorporating kahwa into a balanced diet and active lifestyle may complement overall efforts. “However, individual responses to such beverages vary, and it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or nutritionist for personalised advice. As with any weight loss strategy, consistency and a comprehensive approach are key to achieving sustainable results,” said Dr Batra.
