No one food can help you lose those extra kilos and achieve your weight loss target. But there are some that — when consumed as part of a healthy diet — can help you realise your goals sooner. One such food is peanuts, according to certified yoga trainer Saurabh Bothra who said that these nuts are nutritious, filling, economical, and energy-dense. “These are not just peanuts but a treasure for you. When consumed in the right quantity, they are beneficial in managing our weight,” Bothra said in an Instagram reel.
But what about peanuts makes them ideal for weight loss?
Highlighting peanuts‘ ability to help curb cravings, experts said they can indeed support weight loss when had as part of a balanced diet. Rich in healthy fats, protein, and fibre, they promote satiety and help manage overall calorie intake. “When eaten in moderation, peanuts can be a beneficial supplement to a weight loss program. Their high content of protein and fibre encourages fullness and lowers total caloric consumption,” said Sushma PS, chief dietician, Jindal Naturecure Institute.
Additionally, peanuts provide good fats that increase feelings of fullness and reduce cravings. “They are a wise snack option; despite their high-calorie and nutrient-rich composition, they offer important vitamins and minerals,” said Sushma.
To maximise their advantages, choose unflavoured and unsalted peanuts instead of ones with additional sugars and salt, which might negate their beneficial effects, suggested Sushma.
You can even boil peanuts and have them, shared Bothra, adding that traditionally, peanuts are added in dishes like poha, upma, chutneys, and homemade peanut butter.
But it’s crucial to consume them in moderation due to their calorie density.
“Integrating peanuts into meals or as a snack, alongside a variety of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, can enhance nutritional quality and support weight management goals effectively,” stressed Neelima Bisht, chief clinical nutrition, dietetics department, Paras Health, Gurugram.
As always, personalised dietary guidance from a healthcare professional is recommended to ensure individual nutritional needs are met.
