Actors go to any lengths to ace their on-screen characters. It is no different for Gandhari star Taapsee Pannu, who is gearing up for the emotional action thriller with utmost enthusiasm (read: exercises). According to Filmfare, the Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba actor has been “working on strength, flexibility, and stamina training, along with aerial yoga”.
Taapsee Pannu, who believes in “self-belief, conviction, and a dedicated fitness routine,” previously shared glimpses from her aerial training session.
“Aerial shaerial …. N all that jazz……” she wrote on Instagram alongside #AerialYoga #LoveToHang #BloodRush
We speak to experts to decode the benefits of these exercises.
Vouching for strength training, consultant neurologist Dr Sudhir Kumar, Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad, said, “It increases muscle strength, lean body mass, and reduces body fat. Strength training also improves glucose metabolism, lipid parameters (reduces LDL cholesterol and serum triglycerides and increases HDL cholesterol), and reduces blood pressure,” said Dr Kumar.
Yoga trainer Mansi Gulati, who practices aerial yoga, said with regular practice, practitioners can attain deeper stretches, more flexibility, and increased strength, particularly in the core area.
Challenging classical positions: Practicing even well-known traditional yoga positions in the air might make them more difficult. For example, compared to its ground cousin, the aerial boat posture requires additional core strength to maintain balance, said Gulati.
Gravity as a tool: Aerial yoga poses use gravity’s pull to your advantage, forcing you to use your core to stay balanced. The core muscles have to work harder to keep the body stable when it’s off the ground.
Deeper muscle activation: Practicing suspended postures frequently involves using smaller, deeper muscles that may not receive as much attention in exercises performed on the ground, shared Gulati.
According to Gulati, this combination helps improve flexibility, core strength, posture, stress relief, and muscle training. “Enhancing flexibility, balance, and mental health are additional advantages that make it a holistic approach to training. ”
Concurred yoga trainer Ira Trivedi and said, “Both are extremely important”. “Aerial yoga works because of the suspension and the anti-gravity effect, especially when it comes to inversions. It is good for the joints. While strength training helps with the muscles of the body and building muscle mass. However, remember that all kinds of exercise should be done under supervision,” stressed Trivedi.
