From wake up routine to dinner recommendations, Masaba Gupta bares it all: ‘Tried Keto once, nearly fainted’

Carbohydrates or carbs have a bad reputation owing to the thinking that they inhibit your fitness goals. But many forget that carbs are also energy powerhouses that one can’t do without in the long term. Agreeing, fashion designer and fitness buff Masaba Gupta shared that while she has limited carbs post sunset, she ensures to have enough in “almost always for lunch” and sometimes for breakfast too.

“Yes. Almost always for lunch and even breakfast sometimes. And very limited carbs post-sunset. I tried Keto once and nearly fainted. I need my chawal (rice) and aloo (potato) for life,” expressed Masaba in a recent Ask-Me-Anything session conducted on Instagram Stories.

For the unversed, the keto diet involves a low amount of carbohydrates which are replaced by fat for energy.

One’s diet preferences and choices can make a lot of difference to one’s fitness goals. The Masaba Masaba actor went on to share her relationship with sugar.

“I eat sugar pretty often. Love ice cream but today, I have outdone myself and eaten 5 Melody chocolates. Love chocolate granola also. Enjoy life in small proportions na?” she said.

What would be her recommendations for a light dinner?

*Love a clean, no cheese roti (I do buckwheat) pizza with lots of vegetables and some kale soup, said Masaba while she listed her other preferences.
*A basic hara bhara kebab and some asaparagus soup
*Gluten-free pasta
*Wok tossed vegetables with pesto and some broccoli rice
*Paneer tikka with carrot or lauki soup
*Oven-baked sweet potato with some chilli and lime

Masaba shared that she never starts her day with the phone. “Never start my day looking at my phone unless urgent. And going into breathwork on an empty stomach,” she said.

Addressing the need to consult a doctor in case of PCOS or polycystic ovary syndrome or disease, Masaba said that her guidelines begin with getting help from a doctor.

“Go easy on the dairy and sugar. Get help from a doctor. Manage stress. Speak to a doctor and not blindly follow a ‘wellness influencer’. Verify info. Make simple lifestyle changes like sleeping better, physical movement etc. Call your doctor again,” said Masaba.

She also mentioned owing to PCOS, she has not done HIIT or high-intensity interval training yet. “I have never done HIIT because of my PCOS. Basic strength training three times a week, yoga two times a week, and Mat Pilates once a week. Lots of walks on the beach,” noted Masaba.
