Malaika Arora never fails to impress us with her fitness game. Her relentless dedication towards fitness is truly inspiring. She can often be spotted outside her gym and fitness studio. And the best part is that she shares small clips of her workout regimen to motivate all her fans and followers to value working out.
Malaika had once taken to Instagram to share a video of herself starting her week with a “great stress-relieving pose”, which is known as ‘Ardha Kapotasana’ or half-pigeon pose.
While demonstrating how to do the asana, Malaika had written, “Good morning, Divas. Today practise a great stress-relieving pose with me. Half Pigeon Pose, known as Ardha Kapotasana, is an effective hip opening asana that helps in improving and maintaining your hip flexibility.”
The caption of the post also mentioned why people must try out this asana. “This pose releases any stiffness or tension in the back and deep stretches the lower body muscles. If you’ve had an overwhelming day, practise this pose to end your day by grounding yourself and embracing still in chaos. It will calm your nerves and relax you thoroughly,” it read.
Steps:
*Begin on all fours in a Tabletop position.
*Move your right knee forward, behind the right wrist. Place the right ankle in front of the left hip, wherever it naturally falls. Flex the feet.
*Tuck your left toes and slide your foot back, to extend the leg. The toes should point to the back, and the leg should be in line with your body.
*Keep your arms on the floor.
*Hold for 3 to 5 minutes. Release, take a moment in Child’s pose, then repeat on the other side.
According to Jiggyasa Gupta, a nutrition and fitness coach, FITTR, Ardha Kapotasana is considered an intermediate-level pose, which requires some flexibility at the hips and back. “It helps increase hip mobility, uses core strength to keep your hips levelled, calms your mind, and targets the psoas muscle and hip flexors,” she shared.
However, Gupta noted that anybody having knee injuries should avoid doing this asana. As for things to keep in mind when performing it, she said that one should be very mindful of their knees, keep the right foot flexed, and push out through the ball of the foot.
