“Weightlifting or weight training is a type of strength training with many benefits, and one should add them to their exercise programs. It includes weights in order to build muscle and improve overall strength,” Sameeran Chetia, a certified fitness trainer told indianexpress.com.
Here are some benefits of lifting weights:
*Weight training helps in maintaining muscle and strength and helps in increasing bone density in people. As people grow old their joints are prone to issues such as arthritis and osteoporosis. A proper weight training regime can help avoid such health problems.
*It also prepares one for day-to-day activities. Lifting weights daily at the gym will make lifting a heavy object off the ground and putting it on a shelf above you easy.
*A well-designed weight training program could help in achieving a well-toned body. Many studies have shown that with strength training one was able to burn more fat and put on lean muscle.
Concluding, Chetia said, “Always consult a certified personal trainer before starting your weight training journey. They can help you master proper form during exercise which will help you to progress safely. Additionally, do not go overboard in lifting too heavy initially. Lift the right amount of weight when you first start out and increase them as you progress.”
