At 58, Akshay Kumar serves fitness inspiration like no other — and credits one habit for his success. “I am 58 years old now. I have never in my life, ek bhi baar...have missed the sunrise. I have always seen the sunrise,” he said on Aap ki Adalat.

He continued, “A person’s destiny starts changing for the better when he wakes up with the sun. The only thing is that you have to wait for a time. My father always used to say that people who sleep late are ‘ullu‘ or stupid.”

This is not the first time Akshay Kumar has spoken about adopting healthy habits. He has previously said that he goes to bed early and wakes up early. In fact, in one of his interviews, the actor stated that one should dedicate at least two hours to workouts, apart from eight hours of work and eight hours of sleep, respectively.

Taking a cue from his candid admission, let’s understand what such a routine does to one’s body and mind.

Catching the sunrise every day, as Akshay Kumar does, is more than just a lifestyle choice, said consultant dietitian Garima Goyal, who is also a fitness trainer. “It has real physiological benefits. Early morning sunlight helps regulate the body’s circadian rhythm, the internal clock that governs sleep, hormones, metabolism, and mood,” said Goyal.

According to the expert, exposure to natural light soon after waking suppresses melatonin, raises cortisol at the right time, and boosts serotonin, leaving you more alert and balanced through the day.

“It also aids in vitamin D synthesis, supporting bone strength, immunity, and inflammation control. Over time, this routine improves sleep quality, stabilises mood, enhances digestion, and even supports metabolic health,” said Goyal.

Just 10–15 minutes of safe, direct exposure to daylight in the early hours is enough to signal to the body that it’s daytime and set up a healthier rhythm, making it one of the simplest yet most powerful wellness habits to adopt.
