Tral encounter: Three JeM terrorists killed, security forces face stone-pelting during ops

The officials have recovered the body of three terrorists who were killed in the encounter along with the weapons used by them, the police official said. The militants are believed to belong to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit.

Three terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Satora area of Tral in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter began early Saturday morning after the security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation on receiving intelligence on the presence of militants in the area. The security forces killed two militants in the morning, while the third was killed after hours of gunbattle, news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.

According to officials, the encounter started after military opened fire on forces carrying out search operation in Satoora forest area of Tral, 36 km from Srinagar.

The officials have recovered the body of three terrorists who were killed in the encounter along with the weapons used by them, the police official said. The militants are believed to belong to the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit. However, the identity of those who were killed are yet to established. “The killing of the militants is a major setback for the outfit which is trying to revive its activities in the valley,” the official told PTI.

He also said security forces faced stone-pelting by some people who wanted to help the militants escape as the operation was going on. They were chased away from the scene of encounter by the forces and there were no reports of civil casualty.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti met Home Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi today. The meeting came just five days after at least seven pilgrims were killed by militants while they were on their way returning from the Amarnath shrine.
