Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived in Brazil’s Rio De Janerio attend to the G20 summit. Upon arrival, PM Modi posted photos of being welcomed by the Indian diaspora and wrote on X, “Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents.”
The G20 summit assumes significance amid growing geopolitical differences owing to the ongoing conflicts in West Asia and between Russia and Ukraine. PM Modi is set to put forth India’s views on the issues.
Ahead of PM Modi leaving India, the Ministry of External Affairs had shared his statement: “In Brazil, I will attend the 19th G-20 Summit as a Troika member. Last year, India’s successful presidency elevated the G-20 to people’s G-20 and mainstreamed the priorities of the Global South into its agenda. This year, Brazil has built upon India’s legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’. I will also use the opportunity to exchange views on furthering bilateral cooperation with several other leaders.”
India is part of the G20 Troika along with Brazil and South Africa and has been actively contributing to the ongoing G20 Summit discussions. “During the summit, the Prime Minister will put forward India’s positions on various issues of global importance and build on the outcomes from the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration and Voice of the Global South Summits which were hosted by India in the past two years,” the MEA statement added.
Apart from PM Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart Joe Biden will also take part in the G20 summit spanning November 18 to 19.
PM Modi, on the second of his three-nation visit, was conferred with Nigeria’s national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Nigar (GCON), on Sunday.
In the third and final leg of his trip, Modi is set to visit Guyana from Tuesday to Thursday upon the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali. Modi will be first-ever Indian Prime Minister to visit Guyana in more than 50 years.
