Karnataka govt to ban crackers for Diwali on account of Covid

The move to ban firecrackers comes in the wake of a committee of technical experts, appointed by the state government to advice it on the handling of the Covid-19 crisis.

The state health minister said the smoke from the firecrackers can badly impact the health of those who have already been infected by COVID-19 and even those who have not.

The Karnataka government has decided to ban the use of firecrackers during this year’s Diwali season, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced on Friday.

“We have discussed this issue and have decided to ban fireworks this Deepavali. An order is being issued. This is on account of Covid-19,” Yediyurappa said.

The move to ban firecrackers comes in the wake of a committee of technical experts, appointed by the state government to advice it on the handling of the Covid-19 crisis, suggesting that the use of crackers would lead to air pollution and breathing problems which is a threat to the lives of people who are infected by the virus.
