As one more person died on Saturday night at Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences(SKIMS) -the lone hospital having a full fledged H1N1 diagnostic lab and treatment centre in the Kashmir Valley, the death toll in Kashmir Valley has reached five.

Officials confirmed that 10 more patients have tested positive for H1N1 on Sunday taking the number to 119 since October 2014.

According to a statement issued by the SKIMS, one death occurred on Saturday late night. “The patient was 28 year old male from Kokernag (South Kashmir), who had cardiac comorbidities like AR, MR and left ventricular failure and had been admitted at SKIMS on February 19 for those conditions only,” the statement said, adding that the patient was later found H1N1 positive.

Officials said that one more patient, a 20-year-old female, who tested positive, and was admitted on Saturday night but was stable. “Total number of patients admitted at SKIMS is eight,” an official said.

Dr. Farooq Jan, Superintendent SKIMS told The Indian Express that 3000 Tamiflu tablets and 5000 N95 masks have been received by the hospital on Saturday. “200 patients with respiratory symptoms were seen at SKIMS OPD today (Sunday),” he said, adding that samples of 30 patients were taken for further testing.
