The Haryana government has decided to hand a one-month exemption for the payment of penalty on road tax up to October 31,2013. The decision is likely to benefit about 70 per cent of the truck operators in the state.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda made the announcement at a meeting with representatives of the All Haryana Truck Operator Union here on Thursday.
The truck operators have also been given the benefit of paying
their penalty in instalments on a yearly-basis.
Multi-axle trucks are liable to pay Rs 4,500 as annual road tax and are penalised an additional Rs 4,500 in case of non-payment. Following the decision,they will now have to pay the road tax and Rs 500 annually to adjust their earlier penalty.
Hooda said that as per the present tax structure,vehicles weight up to one tonne are required to pay Rs 300 as road tax annually. Similarly,vehicle weighing between one tonne and six tonne are required to pay road tax of Rs 1,200,for six tone to 16,200 kg it is Rs 2,400; for 16,200 kg to 25,000 kg it is Rs 3,600.
He added that truck operator paying road tax of Rs 1,200 annually will now have to pay Rs 300 over and above their road tax for the adjustment of their earlier penalty. Similarly,those paying road taxes of Rs 2,400 would have to pay Rs 400 over and above.
