Tasked by the Punjab and Haryana High Court with the responsibility to protect the girl and her family, the CRPF is caught in a bind. The 11 CRPF constables are finding it difficult to provide security to the girl who, according to the CRPF Deputy Commandant,is a housemaid.

Her father,is a band master and performs at wedding ceremonies while her cousin is a labourer (sweeper) who works at the mandi.

The girl and her family members do not have any means of transportation.

The Commandant has now written a letter to Deputy Inspector General (DIG),CRPF,Chandigarh, highlighting these “practical” difficulties.

This was informed to the High Court by Advocate Onkar Singh Batalvi, counsel for the central government. The court was apprised that the CRPF was finding it difficult to “restrict the movement” of the girl and her family as they will not be able to earn their living if their movement is restricted.

The Commandant has suggested that two light vehicles be provided to provide security to the girl.

The issue will be argued upon by both the parties on Wednesday in the high court.
