Arunachal Pradesh parliamentary secretary for taxes and excise Lokam Tassar was arrested on Thursday for allegedly burning down documents and materials related to electoral rolls revision in Kurung Kumey district last Monday. A judicial magistrate has since sent him in 14 days judicial custody.
Confirming this,Papum Pare district SP Nabam Gungte said from Itanagar that Tassar,along with a group of about 20 persons,allegedly intercepted a government vehicle carrying materials related to electoral rolls revision from Kurung Kumey district to Itanagar near Kimin,hijacked the vehicle after forcibly evicting the officials and security personnel from it,and set on fire various several trunk-loads of materials related to electoral rolls revision in the district.
“We have arrested him from his official residence in Itanagar on the basis of an FIR lodged by an election department official at the Kimin police station under Sections of 353,395 and 435 of the IPC,” Nabam Gungte,SP of Papum Pare district,told The Indian Express over the telephone.
Materials that were either fully or partially destroyed in the incident included ten cartons of documents and forms related to on-going electoral rolls revision,three steel trunks containing several files,one computer,ten cameras with memory cards,and other items,the FIR lodged against Lossar said.
Forty-five year old Lossar,who is parliamentary secretary in the Congress government headed by Nabam Tuki,has been Congress MLA for two terms from Koloriang assembly constituency in Kurung Kumey district.
