House panel on Waqf Bill to send representatives to five states for feedback

The Indian Express has learnt that representatives will be sent to Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Hyderabad (Telangana), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Mumbai (Maharashtra) towards the end of this month.

The Joint Committee of Parliament on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill met on Thursday and took a call to send representatives to five states in order to further understand the issues around the proposed legislation.

The Indian Express has learnt that representatives will be sent to Gujarat (Ahmedabad), Hyderabad (Telangana), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Mumbai (Maharashtra) towards the end of this month.

The panel on Thursday heard views and suggestions from Chanakya National Law University, Patna, Vice Chancellor Prof Faizan Mustafa, Pasmanda Muslim Mahaz, and the All India Muslim Personal Law Board.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget Session. It was subsequently referred to the 31-member Joint Committee of Parliament, which is scheduled to report on the Bill to the House by the first week of Winter Session.
