Election Results Haryana: BJP stalwart Anil Vij, a six-time MLA from Ambala Cantt, is trailing behind Congress candidate Parvi, according to early trends.
Haryana Assembly Election Result Live: A day after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retained power for the third time in Haryana Assembly elections, all three Independent MLAs — Savitri Jindal, Devender Kadyan, and Rajesh Joon — on Wednesday decided to back the BJP government once it is sworn in. While Kadyan fought from the Ganaur constituency in Sonipat and defeated his nearest Congress rival Kuldeep Sharma, Joon won from the Bahadurgarh seat in the Jhajjar district, defeating his nearest BJP rival Dinesh Kaushik. On the other hand, Savitri Jindal won as an Independent candidate in Hisar, defeating Congress’s Ram Niwas Rara.
The ruling BJP secured a historic third term in Haryana, winning 48 Assembly seats. The Congress, meanwhile, won 37 seats, Independents stood at 3 and the INLD won 2 seats. However, soon after the results were declared, the Congress party said it cannot accept the verdict in Haryana as there were “serious issues” about the integrity of the counting process and functioning of the EVMs in some districts, and asserted that it would take up the matter with the Election Commission.
Key mandates: In one of the most keenly watched contests, wrestler-turned-politician Vinesh Phogat won the Julana assembly constituency by a margin of 6,015, while Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan lost from Hodal Assembly constituency. One of the more surprising losses was of former Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, who lost from Uchana Kalan seat, finishing a distant fifth. His party, the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), also hit rock bottom as it failed to win a single seat.

Election Results Haryana: Today, Phogat, who is running for office in Julana on a Congress ticket, has become a new icon for young women in Haryana and across India, as well as for the traditionally male-dominated Jat community.
When she spoke confidently to a meeting mostly filled with men who listened intently, it reflected a shift in Haryana's society. Clearly, Jat anger — “Jat har cheez danke ki chot par kehta hai (A Jat always speaks loud and clear) — helped create a pro-Congress sentiment.
Election Results Haryana: The mood in Haryana began to shift against the BJP due to the farmers' protests against the now-repealed three farm laws. These protests were largely led by Jats, who felt frustrated with the BJP for choosing Khattar, a Punjab Khatri, as Chief Minister in 2014.
The wrestlers' protests last year, aimed at addressing the alleged sexual harassment by former BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, intensified Jat resentment towards the party. For wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, their fight became not just about seeking justice but also about restoring Jat pride.
Election Results Haryana: With early trends indicating a lead for the Congress party in Haryana, the candidates are feeling optimistic and expressing their hopes to win by a significant margin.
Geeta Bhukkal, the Congress candidate from Jhajjar said she hopes to win the constituency with a thumping majority.
"The manner in which people of Jhajjar constituency have given their blessings and support, I hope to win with a thumping majority from here. Congress will form the government in Haryana. Exit polls are in favour of Congress but I think these are not 'Exact Polls', we will win with an even higher number of seats. Congress fought elections on issues,” she said.
Election Results Haryana: As the early trends show Congress leading in over 40 seats in Haryana, party leader Alok Sharma expressed confidence about the party getting 2/3rd’s majority in the Assembly elections.
"These are early trends, it would not be appropriate to comment. But the trends will get clear in the next 1-1.5 hours. Congress will get 2/3rd majority in Haryana and INDIA alliance will form the government in J&K. The legislative party, the observer, and the high command will decide the CM in both the states," he said.

Election Results Haryana: The internal surveys conducted by political parties echoed the exit polls. One survey by the BJP, according to sources, suggested that Congress was likely to win 60 seats, the BJP 20, and regional parties and independents about 10 seats combined, give or take two.
Factors such as anti-incumbency from 10 years of BJP rule, the unpopularity of Manohar Lal Khattar, and the inability of his successor, Nayab Singh Saini, to make significant improvements in a short time have created a favourable environment for the Congress.
This time, the Jats in Haryana, who make up about 25% of the electorate, seem to have united behind the Congress. In the past, they were often divided between the grand old party and regional outfits, dating back to the days of Choudhary Devi Lal.
Election Results Haryana: Here is what the exit polls predicted-
NDTV’s Poll of Polls indicates that Congress is set to win between 55 and 62 seats, while the ruling BJP, aiming for a hat-trick, is projected to secure 20 to 32 seats.
Dainik Bhaskar's poll survey suggests that the BJP is expected to receive between 15 and 29 seats, Congress between 44 and 54 seats, and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) between 0 and 1 seat.
News 24’s poll of polls also predicts 55 to 62 seats for Congress and estimates 18 to 24 seats for the BJP, with others likely to gain between 0 and 4 seats.
The India Today-CVoter survey forecasts that Congress will win between 50 and 58 seats, while the ruling BJP is likely to secure 20 to 28 seats. The Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), led by former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, is projected to win between 0 and 2 seats in the state.
Election Results Haryana: According to NDTV, early trends indicate that the Congress is leading in over 30 seats, while the BJP is ahead in 20 seats and the INLD is leading in 2.
Election Results Haryana: The desire for change in Haryana was palpable this time, creating a genuine “takkar (contest)” even in traditional BJP strongholds like the Ahirwal region and the GT Road constituencies. Many expressed this “chah (desire)” in various ways.
“In marketing, you are looking for something new all the time,” said a driver at a roadside dhaba in the Badshahpur constituency of Gurgaon district. “People have got tired of the old messages … It is like seeing a movie for the sixth time.”
Election Results Haryana: The Haryana verdict will indicate whether the Opposition's presence is growing in the Hindi heartland, a region that has been a stronghold for the BJP for a decade.
The Congress won Himachal Pradesh two years ago. In the recent Lok Sabha polls, along with its ally the Samajwadi Party, it significantly weakened the BJP's grip on Uttar Pradesh, a state known for influencing national outcomes.
Meanwhile, neighbouring Delhi and Punjab are governed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
Election Results Haryana: Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat's debut fight for the Congress from the Julana seat is one of the most closely watched contests in this election.
The prolonged protest by women wrestlers last year over alleged sexual assault by former BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, along with Vinesh's disqualification before her gold medal match at the recent Paris Olympics, has resonated strongly with voters in Julana.
Several young candidates from prominent political families are also in the spotlight.
These include former Chief Minister Bansi Lal's granddaughter Shruti Choudhry and grandson Anirudh Choudhry in the Tosham seat, as well as former Chief Minister Chautala’s son Abhay Chautala in Ellenabad and his grandsons Dushyant Chautala in Uchana Kalan, Digvijay Chautala in Dabwali, and Arjun Chautala in Rania.
Election Results Haryana: The Congress campaign focused on issues like unemployment, the Agnipath scheme, farmers' protests, wrestlers' demonstrations, and various alleged scams from the past decade.
In contrast, the BJP emphasised its welfare schemes, timely social security pension payments, compensation for crop losses, and minimum support prices (MSP) for crops.
Another contentious issue in the state was the government’s e-initiatives for the public, including the Parivar Pehchan Patra and Meri Fasal Mera Byora portals.
Several prominent Independents are also in the race, including BJP rebels Ranjit Singh (Rania) and Savitri Jindal (Hisar), along with Congress rebel Chitra Sarwara (Ambala Cantonment).
Ranjit Singh, who won the 2019 elections as an Independent, supported the BJP and was later appointed as the power minister. He officially joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha polls but contested unsuccessfully from Hisar. After being denied a party ticket, he decided to run as an Independent again.
Balraj Kundu, the Independent legislator from Meham who has not aligned with any party, is also contesting from his seat.
To contest the Haryana elections, the JJP joined forces with the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), while the INLD formed an alliance with the BSP. After its negotiations with the Congress fell through, the Aam Aadmi Party decided to go solo.
However, the polls appear to be a straight contest between the BJP and the Congress, with exit polls predicting a washout for other parties.
It's 8 am and the counting of votes for the Haryana Assembly Election has begun!
Congress candidate from Kaithal, Aditya Surjewala, stated today that the people of Haryana are fed up with the “corrupt government” and expressed confidence that Congress would win 70 seats.
"Over the past year, when I visiting every street and neighbourhood of Kaithal, and meeting people here, everyone here wanted change. They are fed up of this corrupt government and this government of hatred. I know that Congress will provide that change. Exit polls have predicted 60 seats, I am confident of winning 70 seats," he said.
The candidates contesting for the Kaithal constituency are Sandeep Garhi from the JJP, Satbir Singh Goyat from the AAP, and Leela Ram from the BJP.
As the counting of votes is about to begin, Haryana CM and BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini expressed confidence about the BJP forming the government with a “huge mandate”.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to form government with a huge mandate. We along with PM Modi have served Haryana honestly in the last 10 years. Exits polls do come, there were exit polls during Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand elections as well. We are not raising questions over exit polls, but results have been different and in Haryana too it will be like that. BJP will form the government," he said.
All India Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge expressed confidence on Monday that his party would come to power in Haryana and that the Congress, along with its alliance partner the National Conference, would form the government in Jammu and Kashmir. The results of both assembly elections will be announced on October 8.
"Earlier too we had said that in Haryana and Jammu Kashmir, the Congress government will be formed. In Jammu and Kashmir, Congress and NC (National Conference) alliance will form the government, and in Haryana Congress government will be formed," Kharge said.
As Haryana assembly poll results near, the focus is on the chief ministership within the Congress party, which hopes to regain power after ten years.
Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda played a key role in candidate selection and strategy this time. However, Kumari Selja, a Dalit leader and AICC general secretary, has publicly expressed interest in the CM position, complicating Hooda's prospects.
Hooda has indicated that the opinions of MLAs will be considered, with the final decision resting with the party's central leadership. Randeep Surjewala confirmed that the high command will make the choice, while Deepender Hooda, Bhupinder's son, is also seen as a potential candidate.
Recent trends suggest that under party president Mallikarjun Kharge, mass leaders are favored for the CM role. If this continues, and if exit polls are accurate, Bhupinder Singh Hooda could be the likely choice, given his influence in selecting over 70 candidates.
Sirsa MP Kumari Selja expressed confidence on Monday that Congress will win over 60 seats in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. She stated that the party's high command would make the final decision on the chief ministerial candidate, ensuring that the choice is acceptable to everyone.
"The CLP meeting takes place and the views of MLAs are taken, but the high command takes the final decision (on CM candidate) and that is the tradition in the party."
She further said, "There is nothing like a game. It is more in the media. This speculation will remain till the final announcement is made." "Neither I nor anyone else can say anything on this (CM candidate) and this will be known after the high command's announcement. Whatever decision the high command takes, it will be acceptable to all.
Congress leader and Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda expressed confidence on Monday that his party will form the next government in Haryana. He attributed this optimism to the positive impact of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' on the party's prospects in the state.
Hooda noted, "The people have already shown a glimpse of their support in the Lok Sabha elections, where Congress received the highest vote share in the country at 47.6 percent in Haryana."
The 2019 Haryana Assembly election resulted in a hung assembly. The BJP won 40 seats, the Congress won 31, and Dushyant Chautala’s JJP won 10 seats, making him the kingmaker in the resulting coalition government. However, this alliance failed in March 2024, prompting Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s resignation. Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as chief minister, but his minority administration encountered difficulties after three independent MLAs withdrew their support in May 2024.
