RJD national president Lalu Prasad, 76, was rushed to AIIMS in Delhi after his blood pressure dipped sharply. He was stabilised by doctors in Patna before being taken to the national capital.
The veteran leader was scheduled to leave for Delhi by an afternoon flight but was first rushed to a private hospital in Patna after his blood pressure dropped to 88/44. He was brought to AIIMS for treatment at around 9.35 pm.
The leader has been admitted to the Cardio Critical Care Unit of the Cardio-Neuro Centre under Dr Rakesh Yadav, Professor of Cardiology at AIIMS, PTI reported, citing sources.
A team of doctors is monitoring his condition, the sources said.
His son and leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, told reporters, “He has had a deep wound in shoulder for some time. He is diabetic. He might have to go for surgery for treatment of the wound. As you all know, he has a medical history of heart surgery and kidney transplant.”
Tejashwi said that the fluctuating blood pressure was a matter of concern and needed immediate attention.
Lalu underwent a kidney transplant in December 2022 in Singapore. His daughter, Rohini Acharya, was the donor.
