NDA credits PM Modi’s leadership: Meanwhile, the BJP and its NDA partners hailed the victory as an endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Union ministers, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, and NDA partners lauded PM Modi’s leadership and Home Minister Amit Shah’s strategies for BJP’s victory in the polls. Referring to the saffron party’s victories in Haryana and Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said the results “stand as a resounding endorsement of the progressive policies of the NDA government”.
BJP sweeps polls: In a return back to power after a gap of 27 years, the BJP swept the Delhi Assembly elections Saturday winning 48 of the 70 seats. The ruling AAP won 22 seats while the Congress drew a blank for the third time in a row. The AAP suffered major setback with its top leaders including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia losing their poll battles to the BJP. Incumbent CM Atishi, the only silver lining of the AAP, won from Kalkaji by defeating BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri.

Union minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday said the Delhi assembly poll results would be remembered as a turning point for the people who unmasked AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal.
Speaking to reporters in Gondia in Maharashtra, Goyal alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party deprived Delhi of development and promoted corruption.
The BJP ended the Aam Aadmi Party's reign in Delhi by winning 48 seats in the 70-member assembly. Among the prominent losers was Kejriwal from the New Delhi constituency.
When asked who would be the next chief minister of Delhi, Goyal said it is a process.
"The MLAs will sit together and decide on one name. The CM will decide the date for the swearing-in ceremony," he said.
Goyal said the day (February 8) would be written in golden letters for Delhi people. PTI

A day after the BJP returned to power in Delhi, the party's winning candidates held thanksgiving rallies in their respective constituencies on Sunday.

A day after registering a massive a victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP on Sunday sought time for a meeting of the newly elected party MLAs with Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva wrote to Saxena, seeking an appointment for a meeting with the 48 newly elected party MLAs and seven Lok Sabha MPs from the city.
"I along with the BJP MPs from Delhi and our newly elected 48 MLAs wish to meet you at an early date. Please, allow an appointment at an early date according to your convenience," he wrote to the LG. PTI
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said the people of Delhi endorsed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's guarantees, and asserted that the national capital would now stride firmly towards a "Viksit Bharat".
Modi's policies will now be implemented in Delhi, ensuring that the people benefit from welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and access to clean drinking water, he added.
Addressing a press conference at Haryana Bhawan, the BJP leader said the people of Delhi responded to AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal's "deceitful promises" by voting him out of power.

When asked about PM Modi's remarks on AAP, Social activist Anna Hazare said he does not want to get into politics.
"They will say what they feel, and I will speak based on what I see... Initially, I was not unhappy (with Arvind Kejriwal,) but when he took the wrong path, came into power, and his thinking changed—focusing on liquor shops and all—our ties ended. From the beginning, I have always been in favour of liquor prohibition because alcohol causes immense suffering to women.” PTI
Talking to media, BJP winning candidate from Mustafabad seat, Mohan Singh Bisht promises changing the name of his constituency to Shiv Puri.
"...I had said that if I win I'll change the name of Mustafabad to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar... I'll do it," the elected MLA said Sunday.

After Delhi Assembly elections were declared, Samajwadi Party spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chaand said, "The BJP is the most honest party, you can see their offices like 7-star, 5-star hotels (sarcastically). The question is when they say they will do things, they have been in power for more than 11 years, they had promised about 2 crore jobs, 15 lakh in bank account, doubling farmers' income, cleaning Maa Ganga, where are those promises? They only fight election by polarisation, they don't have any concern for people... SP believes that Opposition parties should fight election together, being ambitious, making many statements against a particular, affected AAP. If Congress and AAP would have fought together, it would have been better. The national parties want to finish regional parties."
After poll debacle, top AAP leaders including Gopal Rai, Sandeep Pathak, Sanjay Singh are meeting at Arvind Kejriwal's residence. The discussion is likely to be centered around assessment of vote share, choosing Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly amid other strategies.
After AAP's poll debacle, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi tendered her resignation to Lt Governor V K Saxena on Sunday. The BJP is expected to stake claim to power next week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from a foreign visit, party leaders said.
Following Atishi's resignation, Governor Saxena dissolved the Delhi Assembly.
After the BJP swept the polls, the buzz over the party's chief ministerial pick has intensified. Addressing BJP workers hours after the Election Commission announced the Delhi elections verdict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi guaranteed that the CAG report on Delhi will be tabled in the first Assembly session after the party forms the government.
“When the world was grappling with the Covid pandemic, these people were building a sheeshmahal,” he said. Thanking the people of Delhi for the mandate, Modi said, “We will return your love hundredfold in the form of development. It is a debt on us that the double engine government of Delhi will repay by developing Delhi at double the pace.”
“A party that was formed to “rid” the country of corruption became completely corrupt. They deceived the people of Delhi.”
He added, “They laid such a big blame on the people of Haryana. I have taken a vow that we will make Yamuna ji the identity of Delhi. I know the task is tough. But we will make all efforts in the service of Maa Yamuna. These AAP-daa people came to politics saying that they would change politics. But they turned out to be kattar beimaan (dogmatic about dishonesty).”
Bharatiya Janata Party's Pankaj Kumar Singh who was leading in the Vikaspuri constituency has won by 12,876 votes. He has secured 1,35,564 votes. He bested AAP's Mahinder Yadav who secured 1,22,688 votes.
