In the first week of the year, 11 militants have been killed in five different operations across the valley, including three Jaish militants killed in Chadoora in Budgam on Friday.
Of the 11, six are foreign militants, IGP (Kashmir Zone) Vijay Kumar told The Indian Express. Meanwhile, a module associated with The Resistance Front (TRF) was also busted this week, with police claiming the arrest of four militants along with weapons, in Srinagar. During the encounter one Army officer received minor splinter injury.
In Friday’s encounter, as per the police, so far one militant was identified as Waseem from Srinagar city, active since December 2020. Three AK-56 rifles, eight magazines and some documents have been recovered from the site of the encounter that began late on Thursday night and continued till Friday morning.
“In order to evacuate the civilians trapped around the encounter site, the joint team (of security forces) ensured the evacuation of all civilians to safer places. Besides, to avoid any collateral damage due to darkness, the operation was suspended during night hours and in the wee hours the operation resumed, resulting in the elimination of three terrorists linked with proscribed terror outfit JeM,” a police statement issued after the encounter said.
Police also stated, “Waseem was involved in killing of Inspector Parvaiz Ahmad on 22-06-2021. He was also involved in a grenade attack on CRPF Bunker near Aali Masjid Chowk at Eidgah Srinagar in which 01 civilian and 01 police personnel were injured.”
The other encounters this week have taken place in Pulwama, Kulgam and Srinagar.
