A 45-year-old man named Macchindra Rambhau Bandal, who was injured during a dacoity at his residence in Davanmalik Wasti near Karde village in Shirur taluka of Pune district on December 4, died while undergoing treatment at the hospital today. Angry villagers staged a rasta roko on Saturday morning demanding that the dacoits be arrested.
About five unidentified men armed with sharp weapons had barged into Bandal’s house located at an isolated spot, about two kilometeres from Karde village, at around 10.30 pm. Bandal, his wife Sharada, elder son Deepak, daughter-in-law Sheetal and younger son Navath were sleeping in the house.
The miscreants had even attacked Sharada and Sheetal. They looted ornaments worth Rs 1.87 lakh from the house and fled the spot. Bandal, Sharada and Navnath received major injuries and were admitted to hospital.
As Bandal succumbed to injuries today, the villagers protested by staging a rasta roko and demanded that the dacoits be arrested and strict punishment meted out to them. Search teams have been dispatched for identifying and arresting the assailants.
