A sea of fans eagerly waiting for the Indian cricket team to arrive parted way as the wail of an ambulance pierced through the jam-packed Marine Drive in South Mumbai.

In a post on X, the Mumbai Commissioner of Police wrote, “Siren bajta gaya raasta banta gaya Mumbaikaranna salaam. (As the siren wailed Mumbaikars kept making way. Salute).” In the video posted by the police commissioner, people can be seen making space for the ambulance.

Traffic in the city was brought to a halt after India cricket captain Rohit Sharma and accompanied by the Indian cricket team landed in the city around 5 pm. The Wankhede Stadium was thrown open to fans, who filled up the stands within minutes to celebrate the Indian cricket team’s title triumph last Saturday.

Earlier, the Mumbai police had on Monday appealed to the fans to reach Marine Drive before 4.30 pm and assemble on the promenade side, as a victory procession in an open bus is scheduled to be held between 5 and 7 pm between Nariman Point and Wankhede Stadium.

Subsequently, seven roads — N S Road (North Bound), N S Road (South Bound), Veer Nariman Road (North Bound), Dinshaw Vacha Road, Madam Cama Road, Barrister Rajni Patel Marg and Vinay K Shah Marg — were announced closed by the traffic police authorities.
