Man arrested for sharing Fadnavis death threat video on social media

THE MUMBAI police Wednesday arrested one person for allegedly sharing a video on social media in which a death threat was issued to Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

An FIR in the matter was registered at the local Santacruz police against two persons.

The arrested person, Yogesh Sawant, was presented before a local court which sent him to 14-day judicial custody. An officer said the FIR was registered based on a complaint by social worker and resident of the vicinity Akshay Panvelkar (32).

Panvelkar, a Shiv Sena sympathiser, came across the video on Facebook, after which he gave a written complaint to the police.

In the video, the accused allegedly abused the senior BJP leader and also issued a death threat to Fadnavis. As per the complaint, the video was uploaded on Facebook by Sawant.

An officer said the person who allegedly issued death threat in the video was booked and will be arrested soon. The FIR has been registered under IPC sections 500 (defamation), 505(3) (statements containing public mischief), 506(2) (threat), 34 (common intention) and 153-A (promoting enmity between groups).
