THE MUMBAI police Saturday filed an over 600 page chargesheet in connection with the murder of Abhishek Ghosalkar – son of a former Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, where they have stated that Mauris Noronha’s security guard was unaware of his plans to murder Ghosalkar.
On February 8, Ghosalkar was shot dead by Mauris Noronha at the former’s Borivali office during a facebook live session. Noronha soon after, shot himself dead. He has been named as the main accused but an abated summary has been filed against him since he is no more.
The crime branch has charged Noronha’s security guard Amerinder Mishra who is still behind bars, under sections of the Arms Act as his firearm had been used by Noronha in the murder.
The police have recorded the statement of 72 persons including personal assistant of Mauris, auto rickshaw drivers who were near the office. The police have also attached the CCTV footage from Mauris’ office in which the entire incident was captured.
The police have said that Singh flouted the law by keeping his firearm in the safe at Noronha’s office rather than keeping it with himself.
The police have said that the attack was premeditated and planned since December. The police also said that Noronha started looking to hire an armed bodyguard in order to gain access to a firearm.
While Noronha had been upset with Ghosalkar over various issues, Police say Noronha believed that Ghosalkar had a hand in getting a rape case registered against him and scuttling his political career. The immediate provocation was his belief that it was Ghosalkar who had intimated the US consulate about the rape case against him, after which his visa was rejected, an officer said.
Noronha was a good poker player and participated in tournaments there annually, where he made big earnings. However, with his visa being rejected, his means to make money too came to a standstill, the officer added.
