The Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat Express, which is set to make its maiden journey on Saturday, will cover a distance of 586 km, the longest route covered by a Vande Bharat train in Maharashtra. It will be the fourth Vande Bharat train from Mumbai and the fifth from the state.

Currently, three Vande Bharat trains operate from Mumbai – Mumbai-Solapur (400 km), Mumbai -Shirdi (340 km) and Mumbai Central-Gandhi Nagar (520 km). The fourth is the Vande Bharat Nagpur -Bilaspur Express (413 km).

The Mumbai-Goa Vande Bharat Express will be virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his Delhi office at 10.30 am. Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be among those present for the function at Madgaon railway station.

The train will run six days a week, except on Friday. While its regular timetable has not been released yet, the train is likely to depart Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai at 5.25 am and reach Madgaon at 1.15 pm. The eight-coach train will depart from Madgaon on the same day at 2.35 pm and reach CSMT at 10.25 pm.

The Indian semi-high-speed train with a permissible speed limit of 120 kmph is expected to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Goa. Currently, Tejas Express is the only high-speed luxury train on this route and it takes eight hours and 40 minutes.
