24 fined for violating tobacco norms
The district health department,with the support of the police,issued challans to 24 people,including tobacco vendors and those smoking in public. According to Satish Sachdeva,district media officer,Vendors were selling tobacco products near educational institutions while many were smoking in public near DMCH,Model Town Extension,bus stand,Ghumar Mandi and Khalsa College for Women. The violators were issued challans under the Tobacco Control Act 2003 and fined. Vendors were fined Rs 200,while smokers had to pay Rs 100 each. The inspection team included Dr Yashpal Mehta,assistant civil surgeon,Dr Daljeet Singh,district health officer,and food inspector Abhinav Khosla.
Annual credit plan of Rs 9,989 cr for city
The annual credit plan for the city has been fixed at Rs 9989 crore for the 2010-11 fiscal,an increase of 32 per cent from last year’s Rs 7591 crore. This was stated by Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Devinder Singh while launching the district annual credit plan at his office,on Friday. He said Rs 7240 crore has been earmarked for the priority sector,which is 73 per cent of the total plan. While Rs 2912 crore would be lend to agriculture and allied sectors,Rs 2736 crore was set aside for small scale industries and Rs 664 crore for other priority sectors. It was added that Rs 271 crore has been earmarked for the Dehlon Block,Rs 257 crore for Doraha Block,Rs 451 crore for Jagraon Block,Rs 4469 crore for Ludhiana-I Block,Rs 135 crore for Ludhiana-II,Rs 185 crore for Machhiwara Block,Rs 189 crore for Pakhowal Block,Rs 257 crore for Samrala Block,Rs 227 crore for Sidhwan Bet,Rs 83 crore for Sudhar Block,Rs 441 crore for Khanna and Rs 275 crore for Raikot. Iqbal Singh Bhatia,zonal manager,Punjab and Sind Bank,Y B Bajaj,AGM,RBI Chandigarh and Vishav Bandhu,GM,District Industries Centre were also present.
International conference today
Gulzar Group of Institutes,Libra,will organise an international conference on industrial competitiveness on Saturday. Dr Joginder Singh,the conference director said more than 125 research papers have been received from Canada,USA,Fiji and South Africa apart from various states of the country. He said the conference aims to deliberate upon industrial competitiveness measures taken by the industry for their present status and future scope. A souvenir and an e-book on the proceedings of the conference will also be released on the occasion. Dr Rajneesh Arora,Vice-Chancellor,Punjab Technical University,Jalandhar will be the chief guest on the occasion. Director of the institutes said the conference will be a platform for academicians and industry to discuss the issues pertaining to the industrial competitiveness.
School celebrates annual day
The Nirdosh School for mentally challenged children,managed by the Inner Wheel Club,Ludhiana,organised a function at the Rotary Bhawan on Friday. Dr Daljeet Singh,principal of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital,was the chief guest while Pappo Abnash Singh was the guest of honour. The children presented a cultural programme depicting festivals of India.
