Under attack over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party Tuesday took to the fight to the BJP camp accusing the saffron party’s state unit president Laxmikant Bajpai of extorting money from slaughter-houses in Meerut and Aligarh districts.
Senior party leader and Cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav also gave an ultimatum to Bajpai and two union ministers from UP “to mend their ways in a month” or he will expose them. He did not disclose the names of the union ministers.
“They are liars, fraud and are frustrated due to our development works. They have forgotten political courtesy. I am giving them warning and one month’s time and if they don’t mend ways, I will expose them,” Shivpal told reporters here.
Targeting Bajpai, he said: “I know from where one is taking commission. Commission is being taken from every slaughter house from Meerut to Aligarh. I know with whom he is partners with in all the trades. I will expose everything if he does not mend ways,” Shivpal said without naming Bajpai.
When asked, if he was hinting at Bajpai, Shivpal said, “So you have understood the name”.
Shivpal also claimed that he will poach double the number of legislators if BJP weaned away even one SP MLA. “None of our MLAs are in touch with them. We have a majority of 230 MLAs. If you say, I can poach their MLAs,” he claimed.
Accusing the saffron party of raking up issues like love jihad and conversion to create tension, he said the UP government will deal with it firmly. “They raised issues of love jihad and religious conversions. First they should do the ghar wapsi (homecoming) of their three senior leaders. Even if they are doing conversion, they should give commitment of marrying their own daughters and sisters with the converted people,” he said.
When asked about “missing” posters cropping up against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav in his constituency Azamgarh, Shivpal said, they were being put up by those who did not vote for him. “Those who voted for Mulayam are not worried. But, BJP people are worried. I had visited Azamgarh thrice and Netaji (Mulayam) will visit once weather improves. Lots of development work is being done and power supply has improved in Azamgarh,” Shivpal claimed.
He instead asked BJP to tell people what has Prime Minister Modi done in last six months.
Shivpal also said that SP will not allow installation of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse’s statue in the state. “It will not be allowed. We will not tolerate it,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bajpai termed Shivpal’s allegations as baseless and said he was ready to face any inquiry.
BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the ruling party should stopped using threatening language. “They should stop threatening us. If they have some issue, they should come forward and the party would give a reply. SP men were using such language to divert people’s attention from their failures,” Pathak alleged.
