The voter registration fair organised by Lucknow district administration on Saturday received a good response as hundreds of voters visited the venue and submitted their forms for registration of their name,correction in electoral roll or EPIC and issue of duplicate EPICs. It was the first such fair organised in any district of UP.
The fair started in morning and continued till late evening. There were separate camps for different Assembly constituencies where the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of respective polling booths were present with the electoral roll and applications forms. New EPICs were issued on the spot to those voters who had applied for correction in exiting electoral roll and EPIC.
UP Lokayukta NK Mehrotra was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing voters and election officials,Mehrotra said the fair would motivate people to vote in the elections. Mehrotra said poll percentage in UP in the next Assembly elections should be more than recent elections in West Bengal and Kerala.
Mehrotra urged people to elect honest representative so that there was no need for Anna Hazare. He also advised the election officials to see that security forces do not cause panic among the voters.
He also praised the district officials for their cooperation in resolving the queries against public representatives.
Lokayukta distributed EPICs to some voters in the presence of Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha and District Magistrate Anil Kumar Sagar. He suggested to organise similar fairs in all the districts.
Speaking on the occasion,Sinha said the summary revision of electoral roll will complete on November 11 but voters can apply for registration of name in electoral roll till the last date of nomination for Assembly polls. voter registration fair in Lucknow.
