Tension prevailed in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi on Tuesday after a 32-year-old Dalit labourer died after being found with multiple injuries caused by a sharp weapon.
The police identified the victim as Shivam Kumar and said that he was found near a poultry farm on the outskirts of Kalyanpur village in the Jamon area of Amethi on Monday evening. A murder case has been lodged against locals Vikas Yadav, Man Singh, and two unidentified persons, the police added.
While the preliminary investigation suggests that the murder stemmed from an old dispute related to a relationship, a heavy police presence was deployed in Kalyanpur on Tuesday to prevent any untoward incidents, officials said.
“There was an old dispute between Kumar and the accused,” Vinod Kumar Singh, Station House Officer of Jamon police station, said, adding that the suspects are being questioned.
According to the police, on Monday evening, they received information about an injured man lying near a poultry farm on the outskirts of the village. A police team rushed to the spot and took Kumar to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A preliminary inquiry revealed that Kumar had left home on Monday afternoon to visit the poultry farm. When he did not return, his family began searching for him. Locals later discovered him lying in a pool of blood in the field.
Kumar worked as a daily wage labourer and got married last year. His father, Chottelal, lodged a complaint at the local police station, alleging that the attackers used a sharp-edged weapon in the assault. The police recovered a liquor bottle from the spot where the body was found.
