The utter disregard and disrespect of the state government to quasi-judicial bodies like the Central Information Commission or the Lokayukta was evident as the entire Council of Ministers under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was conspicuous by its absence at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Information Commissioner John Koshy held at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday afternoon.
The oath was administered to him by Governor Kesari Nath Tripathi.

Except for a couple of bureaucrats, including Principal Secretary (Personnel and Administration) Manoj Agarwal and Undersecretary Jayashi Dasgupta, neither the chief minister, nor any member of her cabinet or any senior bureaucrat, attended the ceremony. “We saw former CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee attend the swearing-in ceremony of the first CIC Arun Bhattacharya. This incident shows how indifferent the present chief minister is to institutions like the CIC,’’ a state government official said.
Noting that the ceremony was a no-show, the staff of Raj Bhavan removed the name tags of ministers on chairs kept at the venue to avoid embarrassment.
