Help refused to Rinku,but no action against officials

“The incident is of course very sad,but this kind of incidents do take place and you cannot take action against police officers every time such a thing happens,” said a senior government official. “You go to other states and you will see a lot of these kind of things.”

Ghosh also said both state police and the Kolkata police have conducted raids on Friday to catch eve-teasers and the Kolkata police has so far caught 100 such people.

As per Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s instruction to sensitise the police,a circular was,meanwhile,issued on Friday which asked all policemen to be sensitive to all sorts of crime.

“All policepersons have been told that if they witness or get to know about any cognizable offence occuring anywhere,they will have to respond in some way or other,” said Surajit Kar Purokayastha,ADG,Law and Order. “Either they themselves go out or if that is not possible,they will have to inform their senior officers. The bottomline is — there has to be a response.”
