Joint Forum of State Government Employees member Bhaskar Ghosh said, “We have three demands. One is a hike in DA. The second is that there are 6,000 vacancies right now and we want the government to provide employment to the people fairly. Our third demand is that people, who are in contractual jobs, should get permanent jobs.”
“We have sent several mails to the the President and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, but we didn’t get any replies till now,” Ghosh added.
“During their two-day visit to the National Capital, the members plan to meet President Droupadi Murmu, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss their demands,” said a delegate.
Talking about the show-causes served to government employees who participated in the March 10 strike convened by the joint forum, Ghosh said, “We know that there have been more than a lakh showcause notices from the state government and six state government employees have been detained in Bankura and Jhargram. We are going to legally challenge the notices at the Calcutta High Court.”
“To protest against this draconian step of detainment, we will stage a protest at all subdivisions on March 28, we will stage a hunger strike on March 29 and we will hold two rallies from Howrah station and Sealdah station on March 30,” Bhaskar said.
“Many IPS and IAS have requested to end this strike and leave the premise on March 29 as Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, will address a rally at the same premise against the ‘anti-people’ policy of the Centre. We don’t agree with it and we are here after taking permission from the Calcutta High Court. There are some rumours about an unrest being brewed here, if it happens, we will hold the state government responsible for it,” Ghosh added.
