Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu walked out of the Rajamahendravaram Central Jail Tuesday evening after the High Court granted him conditional bail on health grounds.
Naidu, who was arrested on September 9, has been directed not to speak with media or indulge in political activities during his bail period.
Earlier in the day, the Andhra Pradesh High Court granted him interim bail on medical grounds in the alleged scam in Andhra Pradesh Skill Development Corporation for four weeks. After reserving its judgement on Monday on his bail petition on grounds of deteriorating health, the High Court granted on Tuesday Chandrababu Naidu four weeks of interim bail until November 28.
Naidu’s wife Bhuvaneswari, son Lokesh, Hindupur MLA and actor N Balakrishna, dozens of TDP leaders, and thousands of enthusiastic supporters welcomed him as he walked out of jail.
Lokesh and Balakrishna turned emotional as Naidu stepped out after 53 days in judicial custody. Celebrations also broke out across the state following his release.
Meanwhile, YSRCP spokesperson and minister Ambati Rambabu said TDP leaders and cadre were celebrating as if Naidu has been exonerated by the High Court. “It is nothing like that. He remains an accused. The HC merely granted him bail on medical grounds to seek treatment. There is nothing to celebrate in this,” he said.
YSRCP General Secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy also slammed the TDP for celebrating Naidu’s release on bail.
