A stalker allegedly tried to slit a woman’s throat in Hyderabad on Monday but was overpowered by alert passersby who roughed him up. The SR Nagar police soon arrested the accused, identified as local resident Kishore Kumar who works as a private guard.
The woman was admitted to a hospital and her condition is stable, the police said. Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 5 pm in Borabanda. Investigators said Kishore has known the 30-year-old victim, who works as a domestic help, for some time and he had been pursuing her with a romantic interest.
On Monday evening, when the woman was riding her scooter, Kishore followed her on his two-wheeler and stopped her near a bus stop in Borabanda, the police said. An argument ensued and he pulled her down onto the street. Kishore then took out a knife that he carried with him and tried to slash her throat. A crowd gathered as the bleeding woman cried in pain.
In widely shared videos of the incident, an agitated Kishore can be seen wielding a knife as onlookers close in with sticks and rods and the victim sits on the street crying. In another clip, the woman herself names the accused as Kishore.
“The crowd stopped him from further attacking the woman,” a police officer said, adding that Kishore was disturbed as the woman had started to avoid him and he decided to kill her assuming that she was going to marry someone else.
An FIR has been registered against Kishore under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
