AAP national convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said that if his party were to form the next government in Goa, it will give Rs 1,000 to all adult women in the state, claiming that this would perhaps be the âworldâs biggest women empowerment programmeâ.
Addressing a gathering at Navelim in South Goa, Kejriwal said, âAs soon as the AAP government is formed, every woman above 18 â daughter, sister, mother, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, and grandmother â will get Rs 1,000 per month in their accounts.
âThere are young women who canât attend college because their fathers do not have money. They can go to college with this money. If AAP comes to power, no woman in Goa will have to be financially dependent on her father or husband for small needs. This scheme will empower women financially,â he said, adding that womenâs empowerment âis when women remain financially independentâ.
Women who are financially comfortable have the option to opt out of the programme, Kejriwal said. The AAP leader claimed that the decision to deposit Rs 1,000 in the bank account of each woman in the state is financially sound and will benefit 5.5 lakh women.
âGoaâs budget is Rs 22,000 crore. If we eliminate 20 per cent corruption charges from the budget, which is Rs 4,000 crore, we can provide 300 units of free electricity, unemployment allowance, free pilgrimage, Griha Aadhar, and monthly allowance to all women above the age of 18 years,â Kejriwal said.
Speaking of the elections, Kejriwal said that Goaâs leaders were either talking about political alliances between parties or were switching from one party to another. He said that no other party was talking about jobs or education or other issues that people in Goa faced.
âWe are making a plan for Goaâs development. No other party is doing it. They have nothing to do with Goa. They only want to loot Goa,â the AAP chief said.
Following allegations by the Congress that a minister in the Pramod Sawant government was involved in a âsex scandalâ, the AAP on Sunday also demanded action against the minister.
