Delhi Police has identified the mysterious woman who had allegedly lured a 26-year-old man to a food joint – Burger King – in West Delhi’s Rajouri Garden where he was murdered by two assailants on Tuesday night.

Soon after the murder, the family of the victim, Aman Joon of Chhochhi village in Jhajjar, Haryana, had told the police that he had become friends with a woman named Annu. The police say that Annu, a Psychology graduate from a Delhi college, is from Rohtak in Haryana. She was living in a Paying Guest accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar.

The police say that Annu is part of Himanshu Bhau gang and had been tasked to “get close” to Joon so that he is brought to a place where he could be killed by Bhau’s sharpshooters.

The police say she had set up a fake ID on facebook and Instagram and befriended Joon three months ago.

Police say that Annu had met Joon a few times earlier as well. This time, an officer says, they had discussed meeting in several places but Joon wasn’t ready to go further from Rajouri Garden. “Then Annu asked him to come to Burger King in J-block,’’ says a police officer.

The police say they have also found out that Annu was previously involved in an extortion case in Haryana. “She had done that at the behest of Bhau,’’ says a police officer. Bhau, 21, is one of the most wanted gang leaders in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. He is currently operating from Portugal.

“Annu has been associated with Bhau for the last three years,’’ a police officer says.

The police have also identified the two assailants who killed Joon but didn’t reveal the names. “They have been involved in the murder of a liquor trader in Murthal (Haryana) in March,’’ according to a police officer.

The dramatic manner in which Aman Joon was killed Wednesday night has put police in a spot because the food joint where it happened is in a busy upscale area of Rajouri Garden.

What the clip showed

CCTV footage from inside the eatery that surfaced on Thursday shows how two assailants opened fire at Joon and then followed him, continuously firing at him as he tried to escape.

The footage showed Joon sitting with a girl, showing him something on her phone. A woman in a yellow t-shirt is sitting on the next table, speaking on her phone. As soon as she gets up and picks up her rucksack, the two assailants stand up and open fire at Joon, causing sudden chaos inside the food joint. There is also a group of four people, sitting around a table, eating and a man standing next to them. After being hit by the first bullet, Joon starts running towards the cash counter. An assailant in white kurta follows him. Joon jumps on the counter and then disappears. The assailant follows him and sprays bullets on Joon, who had taken cover behind the counter.

According to the FIR in the case, “Two men, between the age of 25 and 30, came to the restaurant and started firing heavily at the deceased who was with a woman…the deceased was wearing a skinny blue jeans and striped blue shirt and an Asics slipper…there were six to seven staff members at the time of the incident apart from the branch manager”.

The postmortem of Joon was carried out today, said police sources on Thursday. According to the initial findings, Joon sustained over 30 bullet injuries on his body.

His brother, who was present at the mortuary of DDU Hospital, said, “Joon used to frequently come to Delhi as he used to work with my father and I in our family business of brick work…we don’t know the girl who he was talking to and neither do we have any idea about his gang involvement in the past or present…whenever he used to come to Delhi, he used to stay at Rajouri Garden”.
