A few days ago,the Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) announced its Mumbai team for the West Zone senior national hockey championship and formally named former Olympian Rahul Singh as their manager for the ongoing tourney. What came as a surprise for many was that during the Mumbai vs Goa match on Monday evening,Rahul was replaced by veteran Pooran Singh for the manager’s post.
When contacted,MHA honorary secretary Gurbax Singh Grewal, said,We couldn’t contact Rahul for the last couple of days. So we decided to make Pooran the manager. We tried to call him but he was unreachable.
However, bizarrely,Rahul sat witnessing the entire match from the stands with former India captain Dhanraj Pillay, and explained that he had informed the MHA officials of his trip to Lucknow well in advance.
I attended camps with the Mumbai team and before leaving I informed MHA officials of my Lucknow’s short trip. I even told them that I will join the Mumbai team on Monday afternoon. When I came this afternoon,I was told that Pooran has been made manager, Rahul said.
