A Delhi Police sub-inspector’s 23-year-old son was stabbed to death, allegedly by his neighbours, after an altercation over installing a drainpipe outside his house in Faridabad on Monday. Police said six persons have been booked, and four arrested.

Police said the victim, Pankaj Nagar, was a resident of Tigaon village.

According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s relative Sonu Nagar, around 2.30 pm, an altercation took place between his family members — Pankaj, Nitin, Vikas and Manish — and a neighbour’s family — Pawan, Rahul, his father Naresh, Naresh’s wife Shimla, Dharamveer and Lalaram — over the discharge from a water pipe. The two houses share a boundary wall.

In the FIR, Sonu alleged that the argument escalated and the six attacked them with bricks, following which they went to Tigaon police station to report the incident.

“While leaving from the police station, two of them, Pawan and Rahul, threatened to kill Pankaj. At 4.30 pm, I saw that Pankaj was going on his motorcycle when all six accused accosted him as per a planned conspiracy. They were carrying knives and sticks. Pawan shouted and asked them to kill Pankaj. They all took turns to stab him. He was stabbed in the chest, stomach and hands. As he fell on the ground, two of the accused stabbed him again,” he alleged in the FIR.

Sonu added that when he tried to intervene, the accused threatened to kill him. “My friend Vinit tried to save Pankaj, but the accused attacked him and he suffered a cut on his left hand. Several people gathered hearing the commotion and the accused escaped,” he said.

Police said Pankaj was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Surinder Sheoran, ACP Tigaon, Faridabad, said, “The victim had a dispute with a neighbour’s family regarding the flow of water from a drainage pipe near his house. They had an argument over this earlier too. In the afternoon, they had a scuffle and both parties went to the police station. A complaint was received and both parties said they would resolve the matter within a day. Within some time of returning from the police station, they again had a fight, in which the victim was stabbed to death.”

ACP Sheoran said the victim suffered four wounds — on the chest, hand and stomach — inflicted with a knife.

Police said they are checking whether the accused have a criminal background. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem on Tuesday. The victim had a small property business and is survived by his wife and a daughter, said police.

An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 120-B (conspiracy), 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) at Tigaon police station.
