Flagging CAG (comptroller and auditor general) reports on the state’s finances, which have been “pending” with Finance Minister Atishi since August 2023, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has written a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to advise the minister to expeditiously process these important reports so they can be tabled in the ongoing budget session of the Delhi Assembly.
The Delhi government, later in the day, replied to the L-G’s letter, saying: “It will be tabled soon.”
According to the letter, the L-G Secretariat has received copies of communications from the Controller of Accounts to the Finance Minister — pursuant to a letter by principal accountant of General Audit — requesting for the five CAG reports and one GNCTD accounts to be cleared and sent by the Finance Minister to the L-G, which are to be laid before the Assembly.
Citing the relevant sections of the GNCTD Act, and Article 151 of the Constitution, the letter mentioned that the CAG reports are to be tabled before the Assembly through the L-G, who further said that besides this, the Finance Accounts as well as Appropriation Accounts 2021-2022, along with audit certificates, have also been “pending” since August 2023.
“Since the budget session of the Assembly is ongoing, you may advise the Finance Minister to expeditiously process these important reports, so that the same could be tabled before the House within this session,” the L-G had said in his letter to the Chief Minister.
